Imagine if there were an alternative to smoking cigarettes.

Imagine this alternative could help millions of people quit smoking and came with only a fraction of the harmful chemicals that cigarettes do.

Well, you don’t have to imagine it. It exists.

E-cigarettes are the most innovative and promising smoking-cessation product yet invented. So, public health officials and anti-tobacco activists are all in favor of this life-saving innovation, right?

Actually, they’re almost all totally against it.

Because, incredibly, they make no substantial distinction between e-cigarettes and real cigarettes — even though they are completely different products.

To begin with, e-cigarettes aren’t cigarettes. They contain no tobacco. Instead, a liquid containing nicotine derived from tobacco leaves is vaporized, and users of e-cigarettes inhale that vapor. Vapor, mind-you – not smoke.

This is significant because the real harm from tobacco comes from the combustion process, which releases hundreds of toxic compounds known as tar. Since e-cigarettes have no tobacco and no combustion, they release no tar. This makes them, according to Britain’s Department of Health, at least 95% less harmful than tobacco cigarettes.

E-cigarettes do contain nicotine, an addictive drug. However, there is little evidence that nicotine alone is bad for you, making it similar to, say, caffeine–a drug used every day by millions of people.

Brad Rodu, an oral cancer specialist at the University of Louisville, put it this way: “I love coffee, and I’m sure I could get caffeine if I smoked my coffee beans…but I would be paying a much different price in overall health [if I did].”

In other words, when it comes to addictive substances like caffeine or nicotine, it isn’t the addictive substance that’s harmful; it’s how it’s delivered. As South African psychiatrist Mike Russell said about cigarettes: “[People] smoke for [the] nicotine, but they die from the tar.”

And again, there’s no tar in e-cigarettes.

Does this all mean e-cigarettes are completely safe? Of course not. Nothing is completely safe. E-cigarettes are a relatively new innovation so more research is needed, especially on long-term effects. There’s also a place for sensible regulation to ensure consumer safety.

But unlike normal everyday products, any potential risk posed by e-cigarettes is far outweighed by a real – not potential – good: saving lives by providing the nicotine that smokers enjoy without delivering the deadly toxins that can kill them.

Many former smokers have successfully used e-cigarettes to help them kick their nicotine addiction altogether. A recent study in an Oxford Journal peer-reviewed publication, Nicotine and Tobacco Research, said that e-cigarettes could reduce smoking-related deaths by 21 percent. That’s thousands of lives every year.

The RoyalSnowBall says:

Is it illegal for a minor to use e-ciggs? I read in something it is illegal for minors to buy but not to use

Jak Jonsonn says:

Glycol is a chemical used in refridgerant.Theres no way its not harmful to your lungs. The way to quit smoking is not put another one in your mouth and light it. Its not that hard.

Scott Obourn says:

No mention of the preservative propylene glycol used in most vape juice? There is still some concerns about the potential health effects as no real studies have explored the health effects of inhalation. It’s generally considered “safe”, but all methods of consumption have not been explored.

While I am a proponent of vaping devices for smoking cessation, I am big on regulating them. I used to play cards with a guy that used a vaping device. After about 30-60 mins of using it in close proximity to me, my eyes would become irritated. I’m not sure what could cause this, but there should be some legislation for the benefit of those that do not want to experience the negative effects of their use.

PanicVis says:

But people sell liquid the thing that they put to smoke in vape could be without nicotine or just 0 MG so it is much more safer

Adam Thomas says:

Inhaling propylene glycol isn’t safe at all. Both e-cigs & regular cigs are dangerously carcinogenic.

Birdman Purdy says:

The problem, I think, is smoking and vaping are bad, and they don’t provide any kind of high, so if you get over the withdrawal, well, it’s not like it was suppressing anything like alcohol would.

King King says:

that’s say weeknes of danger

Mark Giblin says:

If its derived from tobacco, it is STILL A TOBACCO PRODUCT.

Combustion DOES NOT have to include burning, Vapes are using heat to boil off / bur / causing a vapour to be created without ignition by a flame but through burning off via a heating element.

I have seen several videos like this and they all show the same ignorance to what constitutes combustion, what is harmful and not and fact is that the issue with NICOTINE is that it is the drug that when excess is exhaled from your mouth, the droplets form a coating on everything in the area.

As a chemical it persists and will remain on the surfaces that it comes in to contact with until that surface is cleaned.

In the UK the Health Act 2006 clearly puts Vapes in the category of SMOKING.

So it doesn’t matter how many times vapers say it, the law in the UK is clear, YOU can not VAPE where you like, it is still smoking and therefore doing it on public transport or public buildings or at work is not allowed.

Will Russell says:

What about all these kids who probably would have never picked up a cigarette, but are constantly vaping, putting themselves at risk for possible negative health effects just to look “cool”? (Also those artificial flavored ones make you smell like a car wash)

xalpha322 says:

The government doesn’t want e-cigs because they lose money on the tobacco tax. The government only cares in your money, dead or alive we are always paying up some way or another.. This video was really informative I also vape and used e-cig to get rid of my cigarette addiction ..

Harshit Madan says:

Remember doctors once endorsed cigarette brands.

ShinyArceusGames50 says:

This isn’t correct. E-cigarettes, or vapes, are not regulated by the government, which means the companies can put whatever chemicals in their vapes without any kind of check, and very little studies have been conducted on the health risks of vaping, and the little tests that have been conducted show it’s highly unsafe. Not to mention it’s marketed to children with “fun” flavors of it.

Ahmed Adly says:

I went into a vape shop with a negative mind set. My eyes were popping out of my head from how much I was craving a cigarette.

I bought a good mod and tank and started dragging on it.
Within 10 minutes, my nicotine cravings were completely gone and I felt satisfied and happy.

Ever since, I have been vaping 3mg nicotine (after finding 6mg a little high for me) and am very comfortable and happy. My lungs are clearing out nicely and I am looking forward to go back to my good old sporty life style.

This is a great video ! It tells you why it is true and it tells you any sensible counter-arguments. It’s not just ONE SIDED !

SnowyThePyroBear Inc. says:

Or y’know, you could not smoke in the first place, therefore blocking the possible financial consumption of E-Smokes or regular Smokes.

bill thompson says:

I smoked 3 packs a day for 30 years. I was patched, lozenged, gummed, chantix, hypnotized. Nothing worked. My last real cig was April 2010. Vaping was the only thing that worked and 8 years later it is still working.

Thee Amezing Spoderman says:

Cool let’s just increase population even more

James Holbrook says:

Everybody talks about it like cigarettes are some uncontrollable epidemic if you are worried about dying from smoking don’t of you are worried about falling to your death don’t go on roofs or anywhere high if you don’t want to drowned don’t go swimming or on boats and those are less avoidable than not smoking it just seems like some many vapors and the culture is so douchey

B Olsen says:

They also cause parts of your lungs to explode

Shadow Fiend says:

she is sexy

Greg Hussey says:

Smoking E’s don’t look cool which Hollywood and slick advertising made sure of…. imagine Clint Eastwood in Good, Bad ,and Ugly with an E smoke.

Chi Phan. D says:

They safe safe toxic, but one problem is e-cig does explode by react element, may cause injury face and mouth.

G r a n t says:

johnnybigood says:

Smoking for 27 years (Smoking vaping) thar as bad as each other if you give up cigarettes to vape all your doing is swopping one addiction for another because your still taking in nicotine. Unless you gradually come off the vape to stop all together but if you stick to vaping then all you have done is swopped one addiction for another. First time i stopped was with patches i lasted 7 months i was a big beer drinker at the time so not smoking wouldn’t last long. 2nd time was with an e.cig lasted 6 to 7 months and got board.
(Dont drink anymore) 3rd time again e.cig 7 to 8 months got board of it because i do site security 14hr shifts and i got to point wear i was vaping that much to get the fix that it started to hurt my throat. And slowly getting very agitated more and more so glad i started smoking again ive tried 3 times once with patches twice with e.cig al never stop again patches e.cig neither comes close to a good rollup.

Jak Jonsonn says:

e cigs are just as bad for your lungs.
